Eggs-The Seeds of Life

Easter is coming and the signs of Spring are all around us.  So I thought I would share some history on eggs and Easter.

World wide there are creation myths of the whole universe being created from an egg.  Most all ancient cultures held the egg as an emblem of life.  Eggs have been viewed as symbols of new life and fertility through out the ages.  Eggs are the seeds of all life, vessels of creation.

Latin Proverb:  "Omne vivum ex ovo"  "All life comes from the egg"

As a Pagan symbol the egg was considered a salute to Spring or the rebirth of Earth.  The word Easter possibly comes from the Goddess Eastre - The Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring who was celebrated every vernal equinox.

The egg was adopted by the early Christians as the "Seed of Life" symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It represents the grave and life renewed by breaking out of it.

They have been painted dyed, carved and immortalized in gold and gemstones.  We are instinctivly drawn to the shape and feel of eggs and many of us know the feeling of what it is to "hatch" ourselves into something new.  Are we not also vessels of creation?  What is inside us waiting to break free?

I love Spring and all the sacred traditions of this time of year.  May we all, with each breath, hold in our
Vessel of Creation Love and Compassion for each other, our Mother Earth and ourselves.  Holding that breath in sacred space until it is ready and then releasing it into the All.  With this breath in this now present moment, and with every breath,  may we give birth to our authentic selves and honor all Life.  Breaking through the shell, as individuals and collectively to give birth to the beauty within.

Love to all.  Enjoy the Spring.
